Woodturning class at the Foundry

Hello Everyone -

The Columbus Idea Foundry is offering a class on woodturning, taught by Devon Palmer.  Among other things, Devon is a studio woodturner/woodworker at JunctionView Studios, and is the woodturning instructor at Woodcraft.  He is offering the class described below, and is donating all of the proceeds to the Idea Foundry.  (Many thanks!)

Details are to be determined, and depend on the number of people interested in this class. If you would like to attend, please send us an email. It will be ~$30-$40, and will be offered on a weeknight sometime in July.  Description of the demo follows.

Title:
Introduction to turning
Description: In this class, you’ll learn the basics of Woodturning, including, lathe setup/use, Tool selection/use, wood preparation and selection as well as the basic cuts. By the end of the class, you should be able to select/prepare wood for turning, mount/secure the wood on the lathe, use the proper tools to make the proper cuts, and have a foundation for shaping and design.

These skills are meant to provide a foundation for spindle turning as used in furniture and other fine craft.

Please note that the Foundry has a growing collection of woodworking resources, including a woodturning lathe on long-term loan (many thanks to Paul for this).  Thus, students who attend this class, pass a safety training test, and purchase a membership to our shop will have access to the lathe for further practice and personal projects.
